Are you passionate about changing lives and helping others? If so, join the team at The Beacon; a Day Resource Center for people who are experiencing homelessness. The Beacon has an immediate opening for a part-time Kitchen Coordinator. The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for providing direct assistance to the Volunteer Coordinator with daily activities and managing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen.

This position offers approximately 25 hours per week with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:00am-1:30pm.

  • Starting pay of $15.00-16.00/hour.

Principle Accountabilities

Client Services

  • Serving breakfast and lunch to guests attending The Beacon.
  • Meal preparation and clean up.
  • Answering guest questions related to available food, times of meals, etc. and fulfilling requests as needed.

Program Management

  • Ensures proper condition and cleanliness of kitchen, equipment, and food surfaces.
  • Manages general operations and inventory of the kitchen and food supply.
  • Make local pickups, plans, purchases, prepares, and serves nutritious foods within the program budget.
  • Assists in training, safety, and oversight of program volunteers.


  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to exert moderate physical effort involving a combination of walking, standing, lifting, stooping, squatting, bending, reaching, pushing, and /or pulling.
  • Ability to follow directions, organize, and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to collaborate and problem solve with co-workers.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Serv Safe knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to be flexible and meet the needs of guests, staff, and the program.
